Ben Axelrod's Week 7 NFL picks: Giants cover vs. Eagles, Browns beat Bengals

3News' Ben Axelrod makes his picks against the spread for every game in Week 7 of the 2020 NFL season.

CLEVELAND — "I want my damn respect too" - LeBron James

After going 7-7 in Week 6, I now haven't had a losing record since Week 2, bringing my total on the season to 46-43-1. Ties are fun, but I'd rather win. Let's try to do that with my Week 7 picks.

Philadelphia Eagles (-4.5) vs. New York Giants

Pick: Giants +4.5

The Eagles had been playing like one of the worst teams in football, and that was before they lost Miles Sanders and Zach Ertz. I don't have much faith in the Giants, but I'll gladly take the points.

Cincinnati Bengals (+3.5) vs. Cleveland Browns

Pick: Browns -3.5

If Baker Mayfield has proven one thing in the NFL, it's that he's capable of consistently beating the Bengals. This, however, is more of a bet on Kevin Stefanski finding ways to take advantage of a depleted Cincinnati defense.

Wahington Football Team (pick) vs. Dallas Cowboys

Pick: Cowboys

The Andy Dalton era couldn't have gotten off to a worse start in Dallas, but I'll still take the Cowboys' overall talent over Washington's. As long as Ezekiel Elliott can hold onto the ball -- a big if at this point -- it's hard for me to imagine Dallas not winning this game.

Atlanta Falcons (-2.5) vs. Detroit Lions

Pick: Falcons -2.5

The Dan Quinn-less Falcons looked reinvigorated last week. Plus, Matt Ryan looks a lot less washed than he did earlier in the season with a health Julio Jones in the lineup.

New Orleans Saints (-7.5) vs. Carolina Panthers

Pick: Panthers +7.5

I still haven't seen enough™ from Drew Brees this season to justify picking the Saints by more than a touchdown against a quality team like Carolina. Between Robby Anderson, D.J. Moore and Mike Davis, the Panthers have the weapons to not only cover, but potentially win this game outright.

New York Jets (+13) vs. Buffalo Bills

Pick: Bills -13

The Jets have entered the 2016-17 Cleveland Browns territory of giant point spreads not even mattering. I'll take Josh Allen and the Bills to bounce back in a big way against the inexplicable starting backfield of Joe Flacco and Frank Gore.

Houston Texans (+3.5) vs. Green Bay Packers

Pick: Texans +3.5

I'm willing to write last week's blowout loss to the Bucs off as an aberration, but I don't think the Packers are as dominant as they appeared early in the season. This is mostly a bet on Deshaun Watson as an underdog at home.

Arizona Cardinals (+3.5) vs. Seattle Seahawks

Pick: Seahawks -3.5

The Cardinals' win over the Cowboys said more to me about Dallas than it did Arizona. As talented as the Cardinals' offense is, keeping pace with Seattle is easier said than done.

New England Patriots (-2) vs. San Francisco 49ers

Pick: Patriots -2

I'm willing to chalk the Patriots' loss to the Broncos last week up to New England's COVID-19 issues. Plus, Bill Belichick's not about to let Jimmy Garoppolo come beat him in Foxborough.

Denver Broncos (+9.5) vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Pick: Chiefs -9.5

Patrick Mahomes is 5-0 in his career against Denver, including two wins by double-digits last season. I expect that trend to continue and for Le'Veon Bell to give the already dynamic Chiefs offense a new dimension.

Las Vegas Raiders (+3.5) vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Pick: Buccaneers -3.5

With Chris Godwin healthy and Ronald Jones taking over as the team's top running back, the Tampa Bay offense is rolling. More importantly, the Bucs lay claim to arguably the best defense in the NFL, which should limit the Raiders' opportunities to keep pace.

Tennessee Titans (-1) vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

Pick: Titans -1

Even if Pittsburgh is able to slow down Derrick Henry, Ryan Tannehill is playing like a top-5 quarterback. With just a 1-point spread to cover, I'll take the home team with the slightly more impressive resume.

Los Angeles Chargers (-8) vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

Pick: Jaguars +8

I've been off this Jacksonville team since the start of the season, but eight points seem like too many to lay against a talented but inconsistent Chargers offense. With Josh Allen likely back, the Jaguars defense should show some improvement. I'll take Gardner Minshew to do just enough to cover.

Los Angeles Rams (-6) vs. Chicago Bears

Pick: Rams -6

Something about this line seems fishy considering the Bears are 5-1 and the Rams are coming off a primetime loss. I'll trust that the oddsmakers know more than I do and roll with the Rams to cover by a touchdown.
