CLEVELAND — Browns fans, you can breathe again.
The team got off the schneid Thursday night with a tough 17-14 win over the Denver Broncos. Cleveland has been dealing with a rash of injuries, but the second (and sometimes third) stringers stepped up when needed.
This "Victory Friday" was the perfect time for our regular segment "3 Things About the Browns," a spinoff of Stephanie Haney's 3 Things to Know podcast. 3News sports anchor fills in for Jim Donovan this week to discuss the major storylines surrounding the club.
Here are today's top topics:
The third-string running back and former fishing boat worker was masterful finning in for Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt, rushing for 146 yards and a touchdown. Nick and Steph chat about just how big his performance was for the Browns.
The star defensive end leads the NFL with 9 1/2 sacks, but blatant holds by offensive linemen against him are not being called and he has also now been "randomly" checked for performance-enhancing drugs after three of the last four games. Is the Defensive Player of the Year candidate being held to an unfair standard?
'THEY ARE TRYING TO CLONE ME': Browns DE Myles Garrett drug tested for third time in four weeks after win vs. Broncos
The Browns' starting quarterback sat out last night's contest with a torn labrum, and it has since been revealed he also has a fractured bone in that same left shoulder. Nick and Steph wonder of he will be available for next Sunday's game against the Steelers, and also grade backup Case Keenum's showing against the Broncos.
A huge congrats are in order for Chicago's Marco Piemonte, as the Browns' victory gave him a massive win in a four-team, multi-sport parlay. The end result of his $30,000 bet? A cool $1.3 million!
