Cleveland Browns stay put, don't make a deal at NFL Trade Deadline

The Cleveland Browns didn't make any deals ahead of the 2020 NFL Trade Deadline on Tuesday.

CLEVELAND — When the Cleveland Browns return from their bye week, they'll look a lot like they did before it.

While their roster still possesses multiple holes, the Browns opted not to make any deals ahead of Tuesday's 2020 NFL Trade Deadline at 4 p.m. ET. That means that in addition to not making any acquisitions, Cleveland also decided to hold onto tight end David Njoku, who had reportedly requested a trade ahead of the 2020 season and will likely be third on the Browns' depth chart when Austin Hooper is expected to return from an emergency appendectomy next week.

That Cleveland didn't make a trade on Tuesday doesn't come as much of a surprise considering that it was a lackluster deadline day across the league.

Perhaps the biggest deal of the day came in the form of the Miami Dolphins trading slot receiver Isaiah Ford to the New England Patriots in exchange for a conditional 2022 sixth-round pick. While it appears only two deals were made across the league on Tuesday -- the Dolphins also acquired reserve running back DeAndre Washington from the Kansas City Chiefs -- cornerback Desmond King (Tennessee Titans), linebacker Kwon Alexander (New Orleans Saints), linebacker Avery Williamson (Pittsburgh Steelers) and defensive end Carlos Dunlap (Seattle Seahawks) were each traded in the days leading up to the deadline.

Without making a trade, the Browns now enter the second half of their season laying claim to a 5-3 record and with holes at free safety, linebacker and wide receiver. Cleveland -- which is attempting to end a 17-year playoff drought -- however, could receive some good news after the bye with star running back Nick Chubb is expected to soon return from an MCL sprain.
