Cleveland Browns 2020 training camp: Day 8 rundown

A key member of the Browns secondary sustained a potential season-ending injury on Monday. Check out our news and notes from Berea.

BEREA, Ohio — After a bizarre day in which the Browns were scheduled to have practice, then shut down their operations because of possible COVID-19 positive tests, then found out they were false-positives, the team got back to work on Monday for what they hoped would be a normal afternoon of practice.

Unfortunately, things again didn't go according to plan for the Browns, at least in terms of a key rookie.

DELPIT INJURY

Safety Grant Delpit, the Browns second-round draft pick from LSU, was going through individual drills on Monday and apparently injured his Achillies tendon while backpedaling.

There has been no official word from the Browns yet. Head Coach Kevin Stefanski did not talk with reporters after practice so we may not know more until Tuesday. But it does not look good.

STEFANSKI'S SCARE

There were several anxious moments on Sunday for Stefanski. He was one of those who it appeared had tested positive for COVID-19.

"It wasn't fun. I can laugh about it now, but it wasn't fun to get that phone call in the morning and then not get the news that it was potentially an error until later," Stefanski told reporters during a Zoom conference before Monday's practice.

Stefanski noted that several of the players had to wait into Monday to get the results back

"I will tell you that our organization mobilized immediately, got on top of it, followed the protocols, and ultimately it was a fire drill," added Stefanski. "It was a great reminder that we have to trust our protocols and make sure we're doing things the right way."

So who ran practice while Stefanski was awaiting his test results?

“I was constantly on the phone all day, obviously, with everybody here. (Defensive coordinator) Joe Woods ran the practice yesterday and did a great job. Having (Chief of Staff) Callie (Brownson) here, obviously, she runs the show. Everything went off without a hitch. I was able to watch 7-on-7 on my iPad about 10 minutes after it ended. Very unique. It is kind of like a bad dream when you know a practice is going on and you are not there. It felt pretty strange," he said.

INJURY FRONT

The following players did not practice on Monday due to injury: WR KhaDarel Hodge (personal), S Karl Joseph (foot), CB Kevin Johnson (liver), WR Jarvis Landry (hip), CB Terrance Mitchell (knee), TE David Njoku (wrist), DT Larry Ogunjobi (groin), WR Damion Ratley (groin). C JC Tretter (knee) and LB Mack Wilson (knee).

In addition to Delpit, LB Solomon Ajayi (heat), CB M.J. Stewart Jr. (hamstring) and CB Greedy Williams (shoulder) left practice early.
