On Thursday, the NFL's owners approved the terms of a proposal for a potential new collective bargaining agreement between the league's teams and players.
Suffice to say, Jarvis Landry isn't a fan of the proposal.
Taking to Twitter on Friday afternoon, the Cleveland Browns wide receiver appeared to make reference to the negotiations between the NFL's owners and players. And in doing so, he hinted that a work stoppage -- be a lockout or strike -- could be inevitable.
"Look like y’all better start getting y’all XFL tv packages together!!" Landry tweeted, in reference to the Vince McMahon-owned professional football league that re-debuted earlier this month.
With the league's current CBA, which was signed in 2011, set to expire following the 2020 season, teams and owners have until then to come to terms on a new contract. One of the biggest sticking points in this round of negotiations appears to be the owners' insistence on adding a 17th regular-season game for each team, in which players would receive no more than a $250,000 game check -- even if their annual salary calls for them to make more.
With the NFL Players Association reportedly voting 6-5 against recommending the owners' proposal, Landry clearly wasn't alone in disliking the deal. In addition to the 5-time Pro Bowl wide receiver, Houston Texans star J.J. Watt took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the matter, as did San Francisco 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman.
Considering the sentiment currently surrounding the proposal, it seems unlikely the NFLPA's 32 player reps will approve the deal with the necessary 2/3 majority. According to Darren Rovell of The Action Network, the owners plan on making this their final proposal and are content to wait out the players in a work stoppage.
And if that proves to be the case, perhaps Landry's tweet could serve as sound advice.
