CLEVELAND — On Sunday, the Cleveland Browns put the final touches on the 53-man roster they will carry to start the 2019 season.

A day later, the team announced the following 11 players will comprise their practice squad to open the 2019 campaign:

Practice squad:

  1. T Paul Adams
  2. DT Brandin Bryant
  3. TE Stephen Carlson
  4. WR Shelton Gibson
  5. LB Willie Harvey
  6. S J.T. Hassell
  7. CB Robert Jackson
  8. RB Elijah McGuire
  9. WR Derrick Willies
  10. C Willie Wright

International practice squad:

  1. DB Tigie Sankoh

Eight of Cleveland's 11 practice squad members are already familiar with the Browns, having spent time with the team throughout the preseason before being waived ahead of Saturday's 4 p.m. ET roster deadline. Those players -- Bryant, Carlson, Harvey, Hassell, Jackson, Sankoh, Willies and Wright -- each went unclaimed and were eligible to re-sign with the Browns practice squad as a result.

Gibson (Eagles), Adams (Giants) and McGuire (Jets), meanwhile were signed by Cleveland after spending their preseasons elsewhere. Gibson is a graduate of Cleveland Heights High School who spent his college career at West Virginia and the first two seasons of his NFL career in Philadelphia, where he was a member of the Eagles' Super Bowl-winning roster in 2017.

McGuire, meanwhile, was selected by the Jets in the sixth round of the 2017 NFL Draft and appeared in 16 games as a rookie, rushing for 315 yards and 2 touchdowns. Last season, he appeared in 8 games -- including 3 starts -- rushing for 276 yards and 3 touchdowns before being released by New York as a part of the team's final roster cutdown this week.

Members of an NFL practice squad are able to practice with the team but are not considered official members of its 53-man roster. They are also eligible to sign with any other team's 53-man roster throughout the season.
