CLEVELAND -- Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield is not afraid to show pride in his alma mater, and hours before the University of Oklahoma was scheduled to play The University of Texas in the “Red River Showdown,” he took the opportunity to mock the Longhorns.

In an Instagram post, Mayfield reminded Texas and Oklahoma fans alike that in recent seasons, the Sooners have dominated the rivalry with a photo of him carrying a flag toward midfield to celebration a victory over the Longhorns.

Y’all know what day it is. Can’t stand them. One of my favorite pics, look at how sad they look going back up the tunnel. #TexasSucks

“Y’all know what day it is,” Mayfield posted on both Instagram and Twitter. “Can’t stand them. One of my favorite pics, look at how sad they look going back up the tunnel.”

Oklahoma defeated Texas in each of Mayfield’s final two seasons in Norman, and overall, the Sooners have won six of the last eight games against the Longhorns. Last year’s victory over Texas helped propel Oklahoma to its third straight Big 12 Championship, as well as a spot in the College Football Playoff, where the Sooners pushed the Georgia Bulldogs to the brink of elimination before falling in overtime in the Rose Bowl Semifinal.

Asked earlier in the week about having to wear a Longhorns jersey should Oklahoma lose, Mayfield was defiant and confident in the Sooners.

“Well, we are not going to lose, so no,” Mayfield quipped during his weekly press conference Wednesday.

“My expectations are that we are going to win. Last time Texas was ranked in this game was 2012, and it was a beat down.”

Mayfield ended the press conference with a laugh while giving an upside-down “Hook ‘Em Horns” hand sign.

Oklahoma has been ranked in every one of the last 12 games against the Longhorns, and today’s game will be the 13th consecutive year in which the Sooners have been in the Top 25 when taking on their rivals.

The game Mayfield referenced in 2012 was won by the Sooners, 63-21.

This year’s game kicks off at noon on today at the Cotton Bowl, which is on the grounds of the Texas State Fair in Dallas.
