Cleveland Browns to host Los Angeles Rams on Sunday Night Football in Week 3

After facing the Tennessee Titans and New York Jets in Week 1 and 2 of the NFL season, the Cleveland Browns will host the Los Angeles Rams in a primetime Sunday Night Football matchup.

CLEVELAND -- Given their potential status as one of the NFL's most exciting teams, the Cleveland Browns always figured to be featured prominently in primetime action next season.

It won't take long for them to make their first -- and second -- appearance.

After hosting the Tennessee Titans in Week 1 of the 2019 campaign, the Browns will travel to New York, where they'll face the Jets on Monday Night Football in Week 2. After that, Cleveland will host the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday Night Football, in what will be a highly anticipated contest between the Browns and the reigning NFC champs.

News of the Browns-Rams matchup was first reported by Joe Reedy of the Associated Press.

With the full 2019 NFL schedule set to release at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday evening, six of the Browns' 16 contests have already been reported. Per multiple reports, Cleveland's 2019 season will feature the following games:

  • Sep. 8 vs. Tennessee Titans (1 p.m. ET)
  • Sep. 16 at New York Jets (Monday Night Football)
  • Sep. 22 vs. Los Angeles Rams (Sunday Night Football)
  • Oct. 27 at New England Patriots (4:25 p.m. ET)
  • Nov. 10 vs. Buffalo Bills (1 p.m. ET)
  • Nov. 24 vs. Miami Dolphins (1 p.m. ET)

Of those six matchups, three (Jets, Rams and Patriots) count against the six-game limit teams receive for being featured in nationally televised contests. In addition to their contests on Monday and Sunday Night Football, it is expected that the Browns will play in at least one game on Thursday Night Football.

In 2018, the Rams recorded a 13-3 record in the regular season before advancing to Super Bowl LIII, where they lost to the New England Patriots. The Browns, meanwhile, are coming off a 7-8-1 campaign but enter 2019 with no shortage of hype following the emergence of quarterback Baker Mayfield and acquisition of star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.
