CLEVELAND — This past Monday, the Browns sent out a series of cryptic social media posts teasing a special announcement on July 24. Speculation ran rampant as to what that announcement could possibly be, but now it appears we have the answer.
As many predicted, the team confirmed Thursday it will unveil its special 75th anniversary alternate uniforms on that date. The catch? Only those who have downloaded the Browns mobile app and signed up for a profile will be able to view and purchase the jerseys during their first 24 hours on the market.
The uniforms will be part of a limited-edition "1946" merchandise collection, marking the year the Browns first came into existence as members of the All-American Football Conference. From July 24-26, app users will also be able to obtain posters when buying items from the collection, and 100% of the proceeds will go towards the club's "Stay In The Game" program to help kids stay in school.
"Uniform reveals garner a ton of excitement and interest among all our fans," Dino Bernacchi, the Browns' senior vice president of marketing, media, fan and brand development, said in a statement. "The work our Foundation does to support school districts across our state is so important and we want to use this exciting reveal to help raise awareness around our 'Stay In the Game' efforts."
The uniforms themselves go on sale to the general public on July 27,. with other "1946" items also available exclusively in the Browns Pro Shop at FirstEnergy Stadium. In addition, fans will get a chance to take photos around the field with several 75th anniversary designs.
Though the Browns have not officially released the uniform designs, they may have already been leaked on eBay back in March, and similar leaked jerseys from the Cincinnati Bengals turned out to be that team's new design. The Browns threads are white with orange outlines along brown numbers, a modern take on those worn during that inaugural AAFC championship season.
"While there are already a lot of guesses and supposed 'leaks', there has not been anything that has fully unveiled our players in full uniform like our launch video will on July 24," Bernacchi said.
As mentioned, only Browns app users will get the first look at that launch video. You can download it here.
