CLEVELAND -- Sitting out the contest for precautionary reasons, Odell Beckham Jr. spent the majority of the Cleveland Browns' preseason opener against the Washington Redskins standing on the sidelines.
And yet, the Browns' star receiver's Nike cleats still found themselves in the end zone by the end of the game.
After misplacing a pair of his own cleats prior to Cleveland's 30-10 victory over Washington on Thursday, Browns kick returner Damon Sheehy-Guiseppi was in need of some new kicks. Fortunately for him, Beckham was in a giving mood, as the 3-time Pro Bowl wideout told Sheehy-Guiseppi, "Here, I broke these in for you" upon gifting him an orange pair of his Nike Vapor Untouchable Pro 3 OBJ Uptempo cleats, according to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network.
Beckham's cleats proved to be good luck for Sheehy-Guiseppi, who went on to provide one of the biggest highlights of the night. With just 3:05 remaining on the clock in the fourth quarter, the 24-year-old free agent signee fielded a punt off the foot of Washington punter Tress Way before racing 86 yards down the field for a touchdown.
“I saw all my blockers blocking and I just saw the hole," he said after the game. "I ran as fast as I could to the hole and tried to take off.”
Sheehy-Guiseppi's preseason highlight was even better for those familiar with his unlikely journey to FirstEnergy Stadium. Having not played organized football since 2016, the former Phoenix College standout's gridiron career appeared to be over before he wowed Browns executive Alonzo Highsmith at an impromptu tryout in North Miami.
Just months removed from sleeping at a 24-hour gym, there Sheehy-Guiseppi stood inside an NFL end zone. And he did so wearing a pair of cleats gifted to him by one of the game's biggest stars, who just happens to also be his teammate.
