JIMMY'S TAKE | Freddie Kitchens has full attention of Cleveland Browns as preseason opener approaches

When he feels practice has gotten shabby and shoddy, he'll call them in, read them the riot act, and it immediately improves.

Another day in pads; that makes nine in a row that the Browns have had.

There were a couple of tongue-lashings from head coach Freddie Kitchens on the way things went Tuesday. The amazing thing is he definitely has the players' attention. When he feels practice has gotten shabby and shoddy, he'll call them in, read them the riot act, and it immediately improves.

Baker Mayfield had a great day throwing the football, especially inside the red zone and especially to Odell Beckham Jr. If you're wondering about whether or not those two are in-sync and getting to know each other in the passing game, don't fret. It's really on-target and ready to go.

The big question: Will we see it on the field Thursday night against the Redskins? That decision as far as whose going to play (if at all) and for how long still hasn't been made public yet. It's a tricky avenue to walk down.

Defensively, Denzel Ward got knocked on a play and beat on a play. It looked as though he might've tweaked something, and then was totally quiet for the remainder of practice.

A big play once again by the rookie linebacker Mack Wilson out of Alabama. It was the second time in training camp he has picked off a pass and gone all the way for a touchdown. He was forecast to be a really good linebacker in coverage, and that's the way it's showing up on the field.

The Browns will have a walk-through on Wednesday, followed by Thursday's preseason opener against the Redskins at FirstEnergy Stadium.
