MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS, Ohio — Baker Mayfield is not the only one in Cleveland who is “feeling dangerous” these days.

The second-year Cleveland Browns quarterback has not only energized the fan base, but also, sparked creativity, as “Rivals Sports Grille” recently introduced the “Feelin’ Dangerous” burger, a tip of the cap to Mayfield and his famous quote after a win over the Atlanta Falcons at FirstEnergy Stadium on November 11, 2018.

“Paying homage to the Cleveland Browns and his famous saying, ‘The Feelin’ Dangerous’ burger,” Rivals chef Matt Gupko told WKYC.com. “We want to run with that. We’ll really see how this burger takes off once this patio weather cooperates with us and definitely football season, so we’re pretty excited about that.”

The burger is Cleveland, through and through.

On top of the half-pound burger patty, Gupko placed fried pierogis, smoked kielbasa, brew onions and a roasted garlic aioli sauce.

Rivals debuted the burger on April 1, nearly one year to the day that the Browns selected Mayfield with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft after a Heisman Trophy-winning senior season at the University of Oklahoma, and despite uncharacteristic weather this spring, the response to the burger has been positive.

“People are loving it and saying, ‘It tastes great. This is amazing,’” Gupko said.

“People have loved it. This patio season has not taken off yet because of the weather, so we’ll definitely see in the next month-and-a-half, two months when this weather starts warming up. We have sold a bunch. People have loved it.”

Gupko and the restaurant managers came up with the idea to recognize Mayfield’s on-field accomplishments after his record-setting season.

After taking over the first-team offense in the second quarter of a Week 3 win over the New York Jets, Mayfield completed 310 of his 486 attempts (63.8 percent) for 3,725 yards and an NFL rookie record 27 touchdowns against 14 interceptions.

Under the direction of new Browns coach Freddie Kitchens, the interim offensive coordinator for the second half of the 2018 season, Mayfield completed 180 of his 263 attempts (68.4 percent) for 2,254 yards and 19 touchdowns against eight interceptions.

The “Feelin’ Dangerous” burger is the latest in a long line of signature sandwiches named in honor of Cleveland athletes.

Along with Mayfield’s burger, there is the “Assassin 51,” an homage to the late Browns linebacker Eddie Johnson.

“We want to pay respect to them,” Gupko said. “Hopefully, they’ll be making the playoffs this year, but they’re so close by. We get such a great crowd every football season.

“We’ve always kind of paid homage to them, and we’ve had that ‘Assassin 51’ on the menu probably since we opened. The response has been great for that burger, but we’ve got to pay some respect to our boy, Baker, and we need to get those W’s here.”

Like Gupko, the Browns and Browns fans alike are hoping there are a lot of game days during the 2019 season where Mayfield is “Feelin’ Dangerous.”
