Social media reacts to bizarre Baker Mayfield interception

Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield threw one his most questionable interceptions vs. the New England Patriots on Sunday.

For many NFL teams, the bye week marks a time to improve and potentially turn around a season.

It appears the Cleveland Browns aren't one of those teams.

After just one quarter of action, the Browns trail the New England Patriots by a score of 17-0. But while its deficit is embarrassing enough, what's worse is the way in which Cleveland has found itself trailing by three scores, turning the ball over three times in the first quarter alone.

After running back Nick Chubb fumbled on each of his first two carries of the contest, it was quarterback Baker Mayfield's time to get in on the turnover action. And while Mayfield throwing an interception wasn't necessarily unexpected given that he entered Sunday leading the NFL with a league-high 11 interceptions, what was surprising was the way he threw his most recent pick, tossing the ball on a pitch play into the hands of Patriots defensive lineman Lawrence Guy.

Given the bizarre nature of Mayfield's interception, it didn't take long for social media to weigh in on the turnover and pile onto the Browns' sloppy start.

Entering Sunday's matchup laying claim to a 2-4 record, the Browns are in a near must-win spot in order to keep pace with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens in the AFC North. Thus far, however, Cleveland's effort has left plenty to be desired, as has been the case for much of its 2019 campaign to this point.
