CLEVELAND — Throughout this season, the Browns have made a point of bringing in "Dawg Pound captains" to fire up the FirstEnergy Stadium crowd before home games. In true Cleveland fashion, the person (or persons) of the hour traditionally takes a guitar affixed with the opposing team's colors and logo and smashes it against an amp (we are the "City of Rock and Roll," after all).
The honorees have ranged from legendary left tackle Joe Thomas to Cavaliers stars Darius Garland and Donovan Mitchell. On Saturday against the Baltimore Ravens, the team decided once again to go the basketball route by welcoming beloved former guard JR Smith to the sidelines.
A key member of the Cavs' 2016 NBA championship team (scoring 12 points in Game 7 of the Finals), Smith forever etched his name into Cleveland lore with his shirtless celebrations in the aftermath of the victory. Six years later, "Swish" gave the Dawg Pound what they wanted, ripping off his custom Browns jersey before blasting the guitar to smithereens.
Now semi-retired from basketball, Smith has more recently tried his hand at collegiate golf, walking on to North Carolina A&T's squad and being named the Aggies' academic athlete of the year last season.
