CLEVELAND -- Former Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon showed why a team like the New England Patriots were willing to take a chance on him despite off-the-field concerns in Thursday night’s game against the Indianapolis Colts at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
Midway through the fourth quarter of the Patriots’ 38-24 victory over the Colts on Thursday Night Football, Gordon caught a 34-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Tom Brady, who reached the 500-touchdown milestone with the throw.
On first-and-10 from the Indianapolis 34-yard line after the Patriots took away a possession with an interception, Brady dropped back to pass, surveyed the field multiple times before signaling for a change in a route and lofting a pass toward the end zone.
Lined up on the right side of the formation, Gordon ran toward the middle of the field, ducked away from a defensive back who had a hold of his jersey, sprinted back toward the right side of the field, snuck between double coverage and pulled in the touchdown reception, his first with the Patriots since being acquired in a Week 3 trade from the Browns.
Following the touchdown, Gordon impersonated tight end Rob Gronkowski with a one-handed spike in the end zone before throwing up both arms and being hugged and congratulated by teammates.
Gordon finished the game with two catches for 50 yards and the one score. In two outings with the Patriots, Gordon has turned four receptions into 82 yards and one touchdown.
