Rocky River native Red Gerard advances to 2022 Beijing Olympics slopestyle finals

Red Gerard is going for gold. Again.

On Saturday, the Rocky River, Ohio, native qualified for the finals of the men's snowboard slopestyle at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, which will take place on Sunday. Gerard qualified for the finals by finishing fifth in Saturday's qualifiers, with the top 12 riders in the competition moving on to Sunday's final.

Gerard is competing in his second Winter Olympics after earning a gold medal in the slopestyle during the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang. He netted a 78.20 on his initial run on Saturday, before falling on his second attempt, a 1620.

The slopestyle finals are scheduled to take place at 12:00 a.m. ET on Monday, Feb. 7.

Gerard, who now lives in Silverthorne, Colo., first started snowboarding at the age of 2, according to his bio on TeamUSA.org.

He will also compete in Men’s Snowboard Big Air with the qualification round on Monday, Feb. 14 at 12:30 a.m. EST. The finals for Big Air will take place early Tuesday morning with the medal round set for 12:45 a.m. EST.
