CLEVELAND — The Apollo program ran from 1963 to 1972. By the 1970s, though, public interest started to falter as a WKYC reporter found out while talking to people in downtown Cleveland after a launch.
The names of the people he talked to are not available, but here are some of their reactions:
- “Well, I think it's a marvelous advance in science, I think that, it’s long overdue,” a man remarks.
- “It's interesting and it’s a waste of money,” said a young woman.
- “Frankly, I haven't paid too much attention other than the fact I understand they got off well on time and everything is going well. I assume that's correct,” said one man.

- “What do you think of the space shot?” asked the reporter to a woman. “Not much of it. Nothing,” was her reply. “Have you heard about it?” the reporter asks. “Well, a little bit, but I'm not interested in it.”
- “Well, I don't know. It's pretty terrific right now in the new way of going at it, taking his car up there and everything that’s what really gets me,” stated a woman.
- “I mean people have become jaded about it but I still think it's a miracle,” a smiling man said.
