Girls In STEM | Betsy Kling chats with STEMbassador scholars

Three ladies from Northeast Ohio make the top 300 in the nation's most prestigious math and science competition.

The oldest most prestigious science and math competition in the country has recognized three local high school seniors as "scholars".

The Regeneron Pharmaceuticals company and the Society for Science and the Public team up annually for the Regeneron Science Talent Search.  Past Scholars include Nobel Prize and National Medal of Science winners.

Nearly 2,000 entered the competition and only 300 are named as Scholars who receive a $2,000 award for themselves and another $2,000 for their school.

Three of this year's Scholars are from Northeast Ohio.

Jing Jing Shen is a senior at Beachwood High School and made the cut with her project "Investigation of the Disease Mechanism and Treatment of Diversion Colitis (An In Vitro Study) ".

Claudia Hamilton is a senior at Hawken School and was recognized for her project "Biodegradable Artificial Blood Vessels: A Novel Method of Tissue Engineering ".

And Greta Cywinska, a senior at Hathaway Brown School, was awarded for her project "Development of an Apparatus for Accurate, Precise Insertion of Intramuscular Electrodes ".

All three have aspirations in the medical field and will be making their college decisions soon.
