Girls in STEM | Betsy Kling explores welding; so much more than heat and metal

About 30,000 new welders are needed every year just to keep up with demand.

All year long, WKYC will be spotlighting Girls in STEM, an initiative that inspires girls to embrace science, technology, engineering and math.

On Tuesday's Donovan Live, Betsy took us to Northeast Ohio's Lincoln Electric to explore a career path she's always wanted to find out more about...welding.

Welding is the fusion of science and skill.

Betsy takes us inside LE's lab and showed us how to students learn using virtual reality before using actual machinery.

About 30,000 new welders are needed every year just to keep up with demand. Average salaries start at 36,000/ a year... with potential for six-figure salaries. But less than 2 percent of welders are women.
