Girls in STEM | Chemistry is her jam

Maeve Galla is an 8th grader from Strongsville with a passion for competition.

CLEVELAND — Maeve Galla is an 8th grader at Saints Joseph and John School in Strongsville.

She's discovered a love for chemistry and has taken her talents from the school science fair to the district and regional level in both individual and team compeitions.  She's also taken the blue ribbon at this year's Northeast Ohio Science and Engineering Fair at Cleveland State University for middle school chemistry division.

Not only that she has earned special awards from the Cleveland Chemical Society and the Cleveland Chemical Association.

She found a pretty ingenious way to test whether formaldehyde makes a difference in the durability of certain products (like nail polish).

This is one girl who is going places!

STEMbassadors, a part of our multi-year, multi-platform initiative called Growing Curiosity | Girls in STEM, is a weekly segment featured Friday at 7PM on WKYC that highlights women and girls doing great things in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).
