Girls in STEM | Copley's 'Lady Engineers' compete in SourceAmerica's Design Challenge

The Lady Engineers from Copley High School will be competing in the SourceAmerica Design Challenge finals next month in Washington D.C.

All year long, WKYC will be spotlighting Girls in STEM, an initiative that inspires girls to embrace science, technology, engineering and math.

On Friday's Donovan Live, our Betsy Kling was joined by Copley High School students Allison Jones, Courtney Phillips, Nina White, and Alexis Gingias. They are the Lady Engineers.

These 'STEMbassadors' are competing in the SourceAmerica Design Challenge, a national engineering competition in which participants create innovative workplace technologies for people with disabilities.

The Lady Engineers placed among the top five teams in the country with their engineering design: The Paper Stack Cutter. The PSC is a device to open packages of pamphlets for shredding. With this low cost simple device all current or new employees at Weaver Industries SecurShred are able to prepare the materials for shredding.

Before the Lady Engineers head to Washington D.C. to compete in the finals, they showed Betsy how the PSC works.
