Crash on I-71 leaves two in critical condition

MONTVILLE TWP, Medina County – Two people are in critical condition following a crash that closed part of I-71 for several hours on Sunday.

State troopers say around 1:50 p.m., a tractor trailer traveling north struck a Nissan Rogue traveling next to it. The two vehicles struck the guardrail and drove through the median. Investigators say the Nissan flipped onto its roof and came to a rest in the median while the semi continued through the median, head-on into the southbound lanes striking a pickup truck before coming to a rest against the sound barrier wall.

The driver of the tractor trailer and Nissan were taken to the hospital where both are in stable condition, while the driver and passenger of the pickup were taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Troopers say the crash closed the highway for more than 6 hours as crews worked to clear the scene and say while the incident is still under investigation, alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
