A chemical spill has prompted the closure of a ramp to Route 2 in Painesville.

The Route 2 westbound entrance ramp from Richmond Street is shut down until further notice because of a reported chemical spill.

Painesville City Fire Department is on the scene along with hazmat crews to test the spill to determine what it is, so that it can be cleaned up.

As of 2 p.m. on Tuesday, the road was still shut down.

There is no word on what the substance might be, or if it is harmful.

Painesville city officials are asking residents to stay away from the area as crews work to clean up the spill and get the road back open.
