State Route 2 in Lorain County re-opened after crash

Drivers are asked to use an alternate route, if possible.

A roughly four-mile stretch eastbound on State Route 2 in Lorain County is now open after being closed due to a crash.

The Ohio Department of Transportation says the accident occurred near State Route 58.

It was around 11:14 a.m. when a semi went off the left side of the roadway, through the grassy center median and struck a 2019 Volvo head on, authorities with the Highway Patrol said.

The driver of the Volvo was extricated from the vehicle and air lifted to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland with serious injuries.

The driver of the semi was taken to Mercy Health in Lorain with non-life threatening injuries.

One of the vehicles leaked oil into a ravine, which the EPA was called to clean up.

Authorities diverted traffic from the area. Westbound traffic was also shut down for a period of time was re-opened shortly after. Drivers were asked to use an alternate route.
