Debris from dump truck closes I-77 in Cleveland for several hours after numerous vehicles get flat tires

The driver has been cited for dropping loads on the roadway.

CLEVELAND — Scrap metal stampings that fell off a dump truck on I-77 led to the highway being closed for several hours on Tuesday evening.

Cleveland Police say the truck lost its load while going northbound from Grant Avenue to the I-490 west ramp. The result was numerous vehicles suffering tire damage. Fire officials estimated that around 100 vehicles sustained flat tires before the highway was closed. 

The driver of the dump truck was issued citations for dropping loads on the roadway and not tarping/covering the load being hauled. 

Also, Ohio State Patrol Commercial Vehicle Officers issued federal citations for commercial driver's license violations as well as load violations to the driver, identified as Paul Podgurski, Jr. OSP also took the driver out of service for the the license violation and took the truck out of service until the load could be secured

I-77 north was closed between I-480 and I-490 for nearly five hours. 

The Cleveland Division of Police is asking anyone whose vehicle was damaged in the incident to file a report here.
