Tips to avoid headaches if you are traveling for July 4 holiday weekend

Millions are expected to hit the roads and fly the skies during the holiday weekend.

CLEVELAND — AAA has some news if you are planning on traveling this weekend.

"This, by far, is the busiest its been since the start of the pandemic," says spokeswoman Tiffany Stanley.

It will be even busier beginning Friday for the start of the July 4 holiday weekend, with millions of Americans expected to be traveling. Because of the pandemic, staffing at airports is still low. Stanley says travelers should expect delays and cancellations. You are also advised to have a back-up plan in place.

3News has done a little research and put together a list of tips in order for you to maximize your time at the airport.

Before you leave home, you want to make sure you have comfortable shoes like sneakers with you. Your feet will be happier just in case you have to deal with cancellations or if your connecting flight runs late and you are forced to run around the terminal.

There are some great deals if you are flying a budget airline.

A backpack is free.  Avoid checking luggage and pay the extra fees for the carry-on bag. That way you know it won't get lost.

If you are driving, you want to make sure you start with a full tank of gas . GasBuddy.com can calculate how much money you will spend for your car trip.

Yes, gas is pricey, but at least you will have a car at your destination.

But that doesn't mean driving around will be easy. An estimated 2.3 million drivers in Ohio alone will hit the roads.

But whether it's a plane, train, or automobile, just make sure you have a safe trip.
