Jet Blue celebrates 20 years of business with $20 fares

The affordable airline kicked off it's " 20 years just flew by" sale Tuesday.

Ready. Set. Fly.

JetBlue is celebrating 20 years of business and rewarding its customers in the process.

The affordable airline kicked off it's " 20 years just flew by" sale Tuesday. The sale offers $20 one-way flights from select markets.

During the two-day sale, travelers can book trips from February 19 through June 17. The sale ends Wednesday.

“No one believed that a start-up airline in 2000 could survive 20 months, much less 20 years,” said Robin Hayes, chief executive officer, JetBlue said in a press release.

The airline took flight for the first time February 11, 2000 with a flight from New York to Fort Lauderdale.

“JetBlue’s role in the industry is more important than ever,” Hayes said. “As the large airlines have consolidated and grown more powerful, and the ultra-low-cost carriers ushered in the no-frills flying, customers are turning to JetBlue for our high-quality service and affordable fares – definitely a unique combination in the industry today.”

Jet Blue takes pride in being the first airline to launch a foundation, the JetBlue Foundation, that supports aviation and STEM education.
