Heat will continue to build across the central and southern Plains and bake the Southwest. The hot weather, combined with lightning strikes from thunderstorms, will lead to an enhanced risk of wildfire development and spread.
Barry will move inland into Louisiana, bringing torrential rainfall, damaging winds and isolated tornadoes to the Deep South. In some spots, rain may exceed 20 inches and lead to catastrophic flooding.
Along the immediate coastline, storm surge flooding will be a primary concern. The storm will also cause a high risk of rip currents along the central Gulf Coast, presenting a potentially life-threatening situation for anybody getting in the water.
