All eyes on the Gulf Coast as Barry approaches

A strengthening tropical system will bear down on Louisiana tomorrow with flooding rainfall, locally severe storms and gusty winds expected along the coast.

Tropical downpours and rough seas can extend into western Florida. Showers and thunderstorms will dot the remainder of the Southeastern states.

Meanwhile, dry conditions are forecast to stretch from the southern Plains through the mid-Mississippi Valley and into the Great Lakes and central Appalachians.

Heavy storms will be slow to exit New England and the upper mid-Atlantic coast. Spotty but locally damaging storms can erupt over part of the Midwest.

Outside of showers and thunderstorms dotting the high terrain, much of the West will be sunny and rain-free.
