FORECAST | From freeze to summer, buckle up for a wild temperature ride

Temperatures will surge this weekend with storm chances.

CLEVELAND — Get ready for a chilly, February-like day around here! A secondary cold front will move south off Lake Erie later this morning, bringing gusty winds out of the northwest and dropping temps. Temps will fall into the low 40s for the majority of northeast Ohio by midday and early afternoon. Clouds will be lingering with areas of drizzle and leftover showers before we begin to scour out the clouds later this evening into tonight.

We'll clear out tonight, and in combination with a high pressure and lighter winds we'll REALLY chill down. Freezing conditions are likely by daybreak Thursday for most inland locations away from the lake and away from cities. Elsewhere we'll have widespread frost as well -- make sure you protect those plants that need it tonight before you head to bed!

The warmer air will then catch our attention in the forecast with rebounding temps into the mid 50s Thursday and up near 70 on Friday. An area of low pressure will develop in the central and northern Plains helping to pump more warmth and humidity here by the weekend with passing storm chances and temps that surge further into the upper 70s and low 80s.

Temps look to remain above-average through next week as of now.

3 DAY FORECAST

TODAY: Lingering clouds with showers and areas of drizzle. mainly early. Otherwise turning breezy and colder. Temps fall into the low 40s.

THURSDAY: Frosty start! Lots of sunshine with a few high clouds. Mid 50s, but cooler near the lake.

FRIDAY: Sunshine followed by increasing clouds. Noticeably warmer. Upper 60s to near 70.
