Heat advisory expanded with heat indexes expected to top 100° today

Mother Nature is giving us another early taste of summer.

Your air conditioner will be working overtime Monday as sweltering heat sends temperatures soaring into the 90s throughout the entire WKYC viewing area.

The National Weather Service says heat index values could top 100 degrees, which is why a heat advisory has been issued for the following counties until 8 p.m.

  • Carroll
  • Coshocton
  • Cuyahoga
  • Ottawa
  • Sandusky
  • Seneca
  • Tuscarawas

“The heat will be most intense during the mid to late afternoon hours,” according to the National Weather Service.

If you have to spend extended hours outdoors, it’s important to stay hydrated.

“The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives / neighbors.”

Other tips? Wear loose-fitting clothing when possible. Take frequent breaks outdoors in shaded areas. Anybody overcome by heat needs to be moved to a cool location immediately.

We also have tips to know the signs for both heat exhaustion and heat stroke:

Temperatures hit 94 degrees at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport on Sunday.
