Northeast Ohio is helping those in Hurricane Dorian's path

PARMA, Ohio — Northeast Ohio is stepping up to help those in Hurricane Dorian’s path.

At Mario’s Barbershop in Parma, owner Mario Innocenzi has begun to collect items he will soon hand over to FEMA. He lived through Hurricane Charlie, collected donations for Hurricane Harvey, and is now helping again.

“Northeast Ohio opens up their hearts better than anybody I’ve ever seen in my life,” Innocenzi said. “We’re going to do what we can.”

The local chapter of the American Red Cross has been helping too. So far, 18 trained responders have joined more than 1,900 from across the country.

By Tuesday, the Red Cross had shelters in Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas.

“We’re prepared to support as many as 60,000 evacuees in the next couple of days,” said Timothy O’Toole, Red Cross, who described it as an “hour by hour event.”

“We’re watching the updates, we’re in close contact with FEMA, the National Hurricane Society, all of the national partners,” he said.

Mario’s Barber Shop is located at 7526 Broadview Road in Parma. To help the Red Cross, click here.
