Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for parts of Trumbull, Mahoning counties

The warning is in effect until 4:45 p.m.

CLEVELAND — The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Mahoning County and the southern part of Trumbull County until 4:45 p.m.

At 3:54 p.m., severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Vienna Center to Youngstown to near Leetonia, moving east at 45 miles per hour. The affected areas could see 60 mile per hour wind gusts with damage to trees and power lines possible. 

Locations impacted include Youngstown, Warren, Salem, Columbiana, Boardman, Niles, Campbell, Hubbard, Canfield, Cortland, Lordstown, Vienna Center, Hilltop, Maplewood Park, Leavittsburg, Austintown, Struthers, Girard, Vienna and McDonald.

The National Weather Service adds that torrential rainfall is occurring with these storms, and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

Meteorologist Matt Wintz provided an update on the storms in a Facebook Live video on Thursday afternoon.

There is also an Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for Stark County until 6:45 p.m.

Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. Some locations that may experience flooding include Canton, Massillon, Green, Alliance, North Canton, Louisville, Hartville, Brewster, Navarre, Wilmot, East Canton, Beach City, Meyers Lake, Hills And Dales, Limaville, Perry Heights, Greentown and Maximo.
