Severe Weather Blog | Flash Flood Warning in effect Lorain, Medina Counties

Areas expected to be hit particularly hard include Grafton and Wadsworth

9:14 p.m. -- Here's some good news: The National Weather Service has canceled the Flash Flood Warning for Cuyahoga County. 

The Flash Flood Warning for east-central Lorain County (Grafton, LaGrange) remains in effect until 11:15 p.m., while the Flash Flood Warning for Medina County is in effect through 12:45 a.m. on Saturday.

8:42 p.m. -- The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Medina County until 12:45 a.m. on Saturday. 

Up to two inches of rain has already fallen. Some locations that will experience flooding include Wadsworth, Lodi, Seville, and Chippewa Lake. 

8:35 p.m. -- Viewers have been sending us some amazing pictures of the storm and its aftermath. 

8:20 p.m. -- FirstEnergy reports that more than 11,000 customers are currently without power in Northeast Ohio. Here's the breakdown by county:

Medina: 6,045

Lake: 2,199

Cuyahoga: 1,141 

7:30 p.m. -- A Flash Flood Warning has been issued for central Cuyahoga County and east central Lorain County, effective until 11:15 p.m. Friday.

The National Weather Service says roughly an inch of rain has already fallen, with more on the way. Areas expected to be hit particularly hard include Cleveland, Parma, and Westlake.

In addition, portions of Cuyahoga, Lorain, Medina, and Portage Counties are under a flood advisory until at least 10 p.m. Residents are asked to relocate to high ground, and to always "turn around, don't drown."

FORECAST: Summertime Storms, Heat Stick Around

Also on Friday, there is a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for several counties in our area:

  • Cuyahoga, Lake, and Geauga Counties through 9:00 p.m.
  • Stark, Summit, and Wayne Counties through 8:30 p.m.

( A Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Medina County expired at 8:00 p.m.)

One other note, The National Weather Service says winds gusted to 68 mph at Burke Lakefront Airport at 7:30 p.m. this evening with the storm that moved through downtown Cleveland.
