Unhealthy air quality advisory issued throughout Northeast Ohio

Today's conditions could be problematic for 'sensitive' groups.

CLEVELAND -- With temperatures flirting with record-setting heat Tuesday, officials have triggered an air quality advisory for all of Northeast Ohio.

Officials with the Ohio EPA warn that “people with lung disease, older adults and children are at a greater risk from exposure to ozone, whereas persons with heart and lung disease, older adults and children are at greater risk from the presence of particles in the air.”

This situation is known as “Code Orange.”

“In this case, the groups that are sensitive to the pollutant should reduce exposure by reducing prolonged or heavy exertion outdoors,” according to the EPA. “For ozone this include: children and adults who are active outdoors, and people with lung disease, such as asthma. For particle pollution this includes people with heart or lung disease, older adults and children.”
