Even with some sunshine, the air will remain frigid from the northern Plains to the Northeast with widespread highs in the 20s and 30s F.

Meanwhile, a storm will ramp up across the South Central states. A zone of ice, snow and dangerous travel will set up from West Texas to Oklahoma.

To the south of this zone, heavy rain and thunderstorms will soak the balance of Texas, as well as western Louisiana and southern Arkansas.

The storms could turn severe across South Texas, with isolated tornadoes possible. Snow showers will riddle the southern Rockies, while rain dampens part of Arizona and New Mexico.

The West Coast can expect a dry day.
