An icy mix will coat roads in the Capital region and southern Ohio Valley and result in power outages and dangerous travel.
South of these areas, rounds of heavy rain and storms could result in localized flooding. Thunderstorms in the Deep South could produce damaging winds.
Dangerously cold conditions will overspread the Upper Midwest, where temperatures will struggle to exceed zero degrees F. It will be windy and chillier throughout the Plains in general.
While the weather turns out dry and calm across the Rockies and Southwest, rain is expected to continue throughout the Pacific Northwest.
