The greatest threat for severe weather is forecast to extend from southern New York and northern New Jersey to southern portions of New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine.
The strongest storms can topple trees and power lines and cause power outages and property damage. To the west of the storms, cooler and more comfortable air will dive into the Midwest and make outdoor activities feel quite refreshing.
Storms will dot the Southeast and southern Plains, while scorching heat bakes the Pacific Northwest. Slow-moving storms in the Southwest will elevate the threat for flash flooding, but bring beneficial rainfall in areas not impacted by flooding.
