A few flurries or sprinkles can dampen upstate New York. A storm in the central United States will undergo rapid strengthening and whip up fierce winds across the Plains.

Gusts of 60-80 mph can topple trees and power lines and create very difficult driving conditions. In addition, heavy rain and snowmelt can lead to flooding across the Plains, while severe storms may target the lower Mississippi Valley.
A blizzard will rage from Colorado to South Dakota, making travel nearly impossible. Snow will whiten the balance of the Intermountain West as fresh cold plunges in.
The start of an extended dry stretch along the West Coast will begin.
