A few of the storms in this swath can turn heavy and gusty. Outside of stray thunderstorms dampening the southern Appalachians and South Florida, a good portion of the South can expect a dry, sunny and very warm day.
A potent system emerging over the Plains will ignite a new round of severe storms, including the potential for tornadoes, from Texas to South Dakota and Iowa. The severe dangers will spread eastward overnight. Rain and storms will congregate over flood-weary areas of the upper Mississippi Valley.
The storm that soaked California today will spread wet weather through the Northwest and into the central Rockies.
