Farther south, thunderstorms can become even more intense producing destructive winds, hail and torrential downpours from the mid-Atlantic to the Ohio Valley.

To the south of these storms, summerlike heat and humidity will bake the Deep South and Southeast. On the other hand, sunshine and mild air will settle back into the Upper Midwest and northern Plains.

A slow-moving storm system still spinning across the West will keep damp, chilly and showery weather entrenched across the region.
