Are you buying Baker Mayfield to the Cleveland Browns in NFL Draft? The Donovan Live Postgame Show

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, one NFL executive says Baker Mayfield is "definitely" in Cleveland's conversation to become the No. 1 overall pick in the draft. Jim Donovan and Dave DeNatale discuss.

As we close in on the start of the NFL Draft, now less than two days away, suddenly the rumor mill has gone somewhat quiet.

That was not the case on Tuesday morning, when ESPN's Adam Schefter put out this piece of news:

Are you buying that?

The NFL Network's Omar Ruiz is hearing similar news, reporting that Mayfield has emerged as a dark horse candidate to be Cleveland's top selection.

Mayfield is the reigning Heisman Trophy winner after a superb year at Oklahoma, throwing for 4,340 yards and 41 touchdowns, while completing better than 70% of his passes. He was 39-9 as the starter for the Sooners.

He's got swagger. We saw that in Columbus when Mayfield planted the OU flag after the Sooners beat the Buckeyes last fall. He also made news for grabbing his crotch during a game against Kansas, while yelling an expletive at a Jayhawk coach. He's also gotten in trouble with the law for public intoxication.

There's a lot to like, and things that make you think twice. Ask yourself if an ubercompetitive guy like Mayfield would be good with sitting an entire year on the bench as the Browns third-string QB. Sorry, I don't think so.

"The Voice of the Browns," Jim Donovan agrees. Despite the late push, he still sees Sam Darnold as the man whose name will be called first by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on Thursday in Arlington, Texas.

One other Browns related thing we touched on: Not to be unkind to previous regimes, but this is the first time in several years that you have legitimate football people making these decisions on draft day. You get the feeling that once GM John Dorsey makes up his mind, there won't be a text message in the world that will change it.

"It's the Cubs"

Lost a little with the lead-up to the NFL Draft and the Cavaliers-Pacers playoff series this week is the World Series rematch going on at Progressive Field. The Tribe and Cubs are meeting for a quick, two-game series.

Tuesday night's game, won by the Cubs via a 10-3 trouncing of Josh Tomlin and crew, had a 6:10 p.m. first pitch. Jimmy thought that decision by the Indians represented a missed opportunity to draw more fans for such a high-profile game.

"IT'S THE CUBS," he exclaims more than once in our discussion.

Think about it, next to the Yankees and maybe the Red Sox, who else is more of a 'rival' for this Indians squad than the gang from the North Side. Heck, they came to town on Tuesday snarking the Tribe on social media and in interviews.

The good news? Wednesday's game starts just after 7 because of national television.
