Members of the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force’s (NOVFTF) Cleveland and Akron Divisions have arrested 22-year-old Raylon McCants, wanted by the Cleveland Division of Police for murder.

On July 1, 2019, gunfire was exchanged between passengers in a vehicle and a pedestrian on a sidewalk in the 7600 block of Star Ave. in Cleveland’s Superior/St. Clair neighborhood. 18-year-old Deonte Watkins was the driver of the car and died at the hospital 3 days after the shooting.

A month after the homicide, Quentay Parks and Raylon McCants were named as suspects in the homicide and warrants were issued for their arrest.

Three months after the shooting, members of the NOVFTF located and arrested Parks in a home in the 400 block of 129th St. A firearm was also recovered when Parks was arrested. Parks has since been charged with murder, involuntary manslaughter, weapons offenses, and felonious assault.

This week, members of the NOVFTF were able to narrow down a possible location for McCants in the Akron area. On Thursday, when task force officers arrived at a home in the 500 block of Elbon Ave., they found McCants hiding in a cubby in the attic of the home.

McCants was taken into custody without further incident and transported back to the city of Cleveland to be booked into the local jail.

“The lead investigator in this case, Cleveland Police Officer Rick Sheppard, never gave up on finding this fugitive. He worked every lead and every tip that came across his desk until all the pieces finally fit together this morning. Another violent fugitive is out of the community, and our cities are safer, thanks to the hard work of this officer," said U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott in a statement.

Anyone with information concerning any wanted fugitive can contact the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force at 1-866-4WANTED (1-866-492-6833), or you can send a web tip here. Reward money is available and tipsters may remain anonymous.
