Avon police officer accused of assaulting JACK Cleveland Casino security manager while off duty

He has been placed on administrative leave.

An off-duty Avon police officer was arrested Friday night after he allegedly assaulted a security manager at JACK Cleveland Casino.

According to a police report, Officer James Cline attempted to look under the skirt of a casino waitress, causing the security manager to ask him to leave the building. Cline apparently then drank a portion of a cup of beer and spit it from his mouth onto the security manager, which led to him escorting Cline away.

Once the two got to an elevator, the manager told investigators Cline "sucker punched" him before eventually being subdued. Officials say surveillance footage confirms the manager's account.

Cline, 30, was taken into custody around 10:15 p.m. "due to the yelling, cursing, and obvious intoxication." He will be charged with assault and disorderly conduct, although the waitress he allegedly tried to harass will not be pursuing charges.

The Avon Police Department has placed Cline on administrative leave while an internal investigation takes place, adding in a statement, "The City of Avon holds their officers to a high standard of Conduct both on duty as well as off duty, any violation may result in disciplinary action."
