WKYC, YWCA: 'Conversations that Matter' summit

It brings together people of different voices and perspectives to discuss issues of race and bias in a safe, respectful environment.

The Greater Cleveland YWCA will host the fourth annual “It’s Time to Talk” summit on Friday, Feb. 23, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Tri-C East, the eastern campus of Cuyahoga Community College in Highland Hills.

This year’s theme is Conversations that Matter. The keynote speakers are Andrew Collins and Jameel McGee, a police officer and an emerging entrepreneur who formed a bond after both served time in federal prison.

WKYC is the media sponsor for the event, which brings together people of different voices and perspectives to discuss issues of race and bias in a safe, respectful environment.

Collins, a narcotics officer, served 18 months. McGee served four years of a 10-year sentence which was overturned when Collins admitted to falsifying evidence. They regularly speak together about their path to forgiveness and friendship.

The goal of this conference is to work to eliminate racism in our communities with many different voices at the table.

Their story has been featured on the CBS Evening News, the Steve Harvey Show and in the documentary film, “Walking While Black.”

Tickets are still available through Monday, Feb. 19 HERE >> http://bit.ly/2EMc0li
