It was the two traditional rivals' first meeting since 2019.

Here in Northeast Ohio, we know college football isn't officially back until Mount Union starts dominating its opponents again. Perhaps this is the taste of normalcy we've needed in these trying times.

At any rate, the Purple Raiders took care of Baldwin Wallace 31-7 Saturday in their Ohio Athletic Conference opener. It's the program's 36th consecutive regular season win and 26th straight over the Yellow Jackets since 1995.

BW (2-1, 1-1 OAC) tied the game at 7 on a first-quarter touchdown pass from Kegan Armitage and trailed just 14-7 at halftime, but Mount Union (2-0, 1-0 OAC) pulled away late in the second half. Quarterback Braxton Plunk went 29 for 43 with 321 yards and a TD, while Canal Fulton native Eli Beers had three tackles for loss and a sack.

This the first meeting between the two traditional rivals since 2019. Last year's fall season was canceled due to COVID-19 concerns, then a rescheduled matchup planned for this past spring was also scrapped due to virus cases at Baldwin Wallace.

The Raiders will head to University Heights next week to face fellow rival John Carroll, while the Jackets will welcome Heidelberg to George Finney Stadium for their home opener.
