Weekend storms damage maintenance building roof at Kent State University; cleanup begins in Summit County

Northeast Ohio is cleaning up after Sunday's storms.

KENT, Ohio — Several portions of Northeast Ohio are recovering after severe storms rolled through the area Sunday.

FirstEnergy crews are still working to restore power for many, while others are cleaning up damage and debris.

A Kent State University spokesperson confirms that a university maintenance building on Summit Street lost a portion of its metal roof during the storms. The resulting debris also damaged some cars in the nearby parking lot.

Cars parked by Dix Stadium were also damaged.

No injuries were reported and power outages in Portage County are under 300 FirstEnergy customers as of 9 a.m. Monday.

All classes and activities remain on schedule as students return for the first week of the fall semester.

Meanwhile, more than 6,000 Summit County residents are still without power while others are cleaning up the storm's aftermath.
