TWINSBURG -- The Cleveland Clinic will break ground Thursday on the $96 million Twinsburg Family Health & Surgery Center. The center will bring 300 jobs, generate more than $600,000 annually in local payroll taxes, and also generate $1.3 million in state payroll taxes.

The 190,000-square-foot facility, which will open in 2011, will be the Clinic's first family health center with a 24-hour emergency department and helipad.

"The Twinsburg Family Health and Surgery Center will feature cardiology, colorectal surgery, neurology, OB/GYN, orthopaedics, urology, vascular surgery and 29 other specialized medical services," said Cynthia Deyling, M.D., chair of Cleveland Clinic's Regional Operations Institute.

The new Twinsburg center will be located at the intersection of Route 91 and I-480.

William Peacock, the Cleveland Clinic's chief of operations, said, "This center is an example of our commitment to Northeast Ohio to bring Cleveland Clinic care closer to patients for their convenience."

The Cleveland Clinic has worked with the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and the Army Corps of Engineers to preserve the natural habitat on its grounds.

More than 37 acres of the 86-acre site will be protected.

In addition, Cleveland Clinic will be applying for LEED certification for the Twinsburg center because of its environmentally-friendly features, which include low-flow plumbing fixtures, sensors to turn off faucets and lights when they are not being used, as well as the wetlands preservation.

Cleveland Clinic currently has 15 family health centers and nine regional hospitals to serve the medical needs of Northeast Ohio.
