Euphoria Lanes breaks the bowling mold in Cleveland

A historic bowling alley is getting attention for a unique new concept -- and new ownership.

CLEVELAND — Euphoria Lanes is a historic bowling alley located on East 30th St. in Cleveland.

This weekend, the bowling alley is going to be in the spotlight for the upcoming All-Star weekend.

The venue is the brainchild of two business owners, Chris Brooks and Thomas Norris, and started as the idea to own a restaurant.

"We never had an intention of owning like a bowling alley, we were looking for a home for the restaurant," said Brooks.

"When I was like 26, 27, I opened up my first bar," said Norris. "The crowd was getting so big I had to find a new building."

The two told us that going into business together just made sense because their personalities complement one another so well.

"We have a good mesh though, you know what I mean? Like his strong points are some of my weak and vice versa," said Brooks.

Euphoria Lanes is now the home of the oldest Black men's bowling club, and Brooks and Norris say they are meeting some very unique people.

As Black business owners themselves, they soon discovered they were joining an exclusive club -- a slice of history. There are only six or seven Black-owned bowling alleys in the country.

Norris and Brooks say there have been a lot of stigmas they have had to confront.

"We're typecast a certain way, just for being young Black males, you know what I mean?" said Brooks.

The two continue to work hard, and that hard work is certainly paying off, especially we approach All-Star weekend.

"All-Star Weekend is going to be big for the city. It's going to bring so much money and the spotlight is going to be directed directly on us in our city. And we're just trying to capitalize on that weekend," said Brooks.

Euphoria Lanes offers open bowling every day of the week. Their hours are listed here, and you can find more information about their plans for All-Star weekend on their Instagram.
