Inmate known as 'Dandy Daddy' was on plane that crashed in Geauga County

The inmate, 67-year-old Carl Lee Jasperse, is serving a 102-month prison term after pleading guilty to distribution and possession of child sexual abuse material.

CLEVELAND — Officials have released the name of the inmate that was on board the plane that crashed in Geauga County last week.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) has identified the inmate as 67-year-old Carl Lee Jasperse, who is serving a 102-month prison term after pleading guilty to distribution and possession of child sexual abuse material in 2021.

The U.S. Department of Justice says Jasperse, who went by the screen name "Dandy Daddy," used a mobile application to communicate with individuals about child sexual abuse material and trade the same. Jasperse was found to be in possession of more than 4000 images and videos of child sexual abuse material when a search warrant was executed at his Lantana, Florida residence in January 2021.

The aircraft carrying Jasperse, the pilot, and four law enforcement officers from the Federal Bureau of Prisons made an emergency landing near the Geauga County Airport in Middlefield on the morning of January 18.

The landing occurred at approximately 9 a.m.

The plane was a Piper Model AP-31-350 bound from Youngstown to Detroit to pick up a second inmate. Jasperse and the four officers were coming from the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Elkton in Lisbon, Ohio.  The aircraft was owned by Pablo Air Charters LLC of New Freedom, Pennsylvania.

The OSHP has also identified the pilot as 67-year-old Robert Keleti.

According to the incident report from the OSHP, the trouble began during the flight when the right engine started to leak oil. Keleti tried to make an emergency landing at Geauga County Airport, but missed the runway and crashed into a field.

The plane sustained minor damage in the crash. The Federal Bureau of Prisons reports that its four staff members and Jasperse were treated at the scene for minor injuries. Jasperse was later picked up and taken back to Youngstown, according to the Geauga County Sheriff's Office.

The OSHP and the Federal Aviation Administration are conducting an investigation of the crash.
